Who we are, what we believe, and how we serve the Kansas City region.
To Transform Kansas City Through Encounters With Jesus.
We pursue that mission by teaching, equipping, and activating followers of Jesus to demonstrate the goodness of God through the power of the Holy Spirit in their spheres of influence.
Encounter Kansas City, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation based in Overland Park, Kansas. We are a Catholic formation ministry serving adults across the greater Kansas City region, and we operate the Kansas City campus of the Encounter School of Ministry.
We are passionate about the Church taking hold of its truest identity: power-filled sons and daughters of a Father who holds nothing back, and heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven. Our work is rooted in the conviction that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not reserved for a select few, but are given to every baptized believer for the building up of the Church and the good of the world.
Our primary work is the formation of adult students through a multi-year school of ministry. Alongside that school, we hold healing services open to anyone carrying pain, whether or not they are connected to our program, and we send mission teams both internationally and locally.
Full details are on our Programs page.
We teach in conformity with the teaching and tradition of the Catholic Church. Our curriculum draws from the richness of Catholic heritage while making space for genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit. Students are not simply taught about the Christian life; they are given practical tools, a community of peers, and repeated opportunities to step out in faith.
We believe lasting transformation takes time. That is why our model is long-term discipleship rather than a single conference or weekend retreat. Jesus spent three years with His disciples, and we take that pattern seriously.
Encounter Kansas City operates as a satellite campus within the Encounter Ministries network. Encounter Ministries develops the curriculum and standards for the Encounter School of Ministry. Encounter Kansas City, Inc. is the independent Kansas nonprofit that runs the Kansas City campus, organizes local events, and serves the Kansas City region. You can learn more about our parent organization at encounterministries.us.
Encounter Kansas City is led by Dr. Eric Wombwell, Founder and Executive Director.
Our Board of Directors includes Jeffrey Pearson, Nick Redd, and Kristi Taylor. A volunteer leadership team supports the work, with coordinators for each year of the school, worship, prayer ministry, events, community, and pastoral care.
